Being a Steadfast Warrior

Steadfast: resolutely or dutifully firm and unwavering. (Synonyms include: loyal, faithful, committed, devoted, dedicated, dependable)

Being a steadfast warrior in a spiritual/religious sense is about being constant in our battles for the kingdom of God in this world. I believe it is safe to say it’s not easy. I think that’s pretty obvious with the events that occur in our day-to-day lives. For example, when life is going well for us, we may fall into the trap of having an enlarged ego or overconfidence about a situation. God calls us to be humble in all times. When someone outwardly displays a big ego or overconfidence, it leaves little room for God in their lives. God shows favor for those who are humble, rather than those who are prideful and arrogant. Let’s also be honest with ourselves here. Who wants to hang around someone who thinks they are bigger and better than everyone around them?

Colossians 3:12 – “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.”

Being a steadfast warrior may also seem to be difficult during tough times. Have you ever chosen to rely on something of this world rather than God during adversity? How has that ever turned out for you? You may believe that it has turned out well for you, but that happiness and “positive outcome” is only temporary if God is not involved. There are so many situations that I can look back on where I thought I could solve my problems without God, only for it to backfire later on in the future. God has a funny way of making His presence known if we choose to go through life without Him. I am now a firm believer that God will allow events we see as terrible to occur in order to get a message across as well as bringing us closer to Him. Personally, I recently felt like God had taken away something very precious and good to me. I was so angry at God and didn’t understand why He would allow something like that to happen to me. A couple months later, I saw the blessings that came from the situation and how I am a lot better off as a man and individual because of it.

It is important to constantly remind ourselves that being a steadfast warrior for the kingdom of God is well worth the battles we face in this world. No matter what you may be going through, God always has a reason for allowing certain events to occur. It may not be clear at the moment what the purpose of the event was, but I promise you, be patient and you WILL see that God always has great intentions for us, even during the worst of times.

Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
